Asymmetrical Canopex® Half-Open-Centre Service Body with Structured Storage, Long-Item Handling, Electrical, Safety, Recovery and Field-Support Systems

RXI completed this Ford Ranger Super Duty fit-out around the demands of utility field work, combining organised tool storage, long-item transport and integrated safety systems within one heavy-duty vehicle platform.

At the centre of the build is a 2550mm asymmetrical Canopex® half-open-centre service body, designed to keep tools and equipment organised, secure and easy to access. Adjustable shelving, small-parts storage, underbody lockers, ladder holders, conduit carriers and load-restraint systems create dedicated storage zones, while integrated lighting, warning systems, digital controls, water provision, an awning, compressor, bull bar and winch add practical field capability. Together, these features turn the Ford Ranger Super Duty into a well-organised mobile workspace built to support technicians working across varied site conditions.

Requirements:
Utility field vehicles need to carry tools, long equipment, safety gear and specialist hardware without sacrificing access or load control. For this build, the requirement extended beyond storage to include ladder and conduit handling, structured small-parts organisation, warning systems, work lighting, recovery equipment and practical operator-support features. The solution also needed to integrate these systems with the Ford Ranger Super Duty platform and Energy Queensland-specific electrical and storage requirements.

The RXI solution:
RXI fitted the Ranger Super Duty with a 2550mm asymmetrical Canopex® half-open-centre aluminium service body with manual gullwing access. The fit-out combines adjustable shelving, small-parts trays, underbody storage, ladder and conduit carriers, cargo restraint and a pull-out access step with integrated lighting, digital switching, warning systems and recovery equipment – creating a structured field-service platform around the vehicle.

Key Requirements
  • Asymmetrical Canopex® Service Body

2550 x 1950 x 900mm (LWH) Aluminium half-open-centre body creates secure side storage around an accessible central load area.
  • Manual Gullwing Side Access

Multiple gullwing door sections provide direct access to dedicated storage zones on both sides of the body.
  • Structured Cabinet Storage

Adjustable aluminium shelves and fixed cabinet shelves support organised storage across differently sized equipment categories.
  • Small-Parts Organisation

Sixteen small trays and seven larger trays create high-density separation for components, fittings and consumables.
  • Underbody Shovel and Safety Storage

An EQL-specific shovel locker plus front-access safety-box holder make use of underbody space for dedicated equipment.
  • Dual Conduit Carriers

1850mm and 2200mm underbody carriers provide protected storage for long conduit and similar materials.
  • Cargo Restraint System

Vertical anchor tracks, tie-down rings, flush floor rings and an L-shaped cargo net provide multiple restraint points.
  • Dual Ladder Handling

Two 3.5m extension-ladder holders with rollers, straps and ladder hoops support long-equipment loading and retention.
  • Safer Access Points

A pull-out double underbody step with platform and four high-visibility grab handles support access around the body.
  • EQL Telink Digital Switching

Vehicle-specific digital switching integrates selected auxiliary electrical functions with the Ranger platform.
  • Field Power Provisions

12V auxiliary sockets, a 175A Anderson connection, heavy-duty battery box and RCD/GPO mounting provision support auxiliary equipment integration.
  • Integrated Lighting and Warning

Interior LEDs, front spot/flood work lights, rear flood light and twin amber beacons support visibility around the work area.
  • Reversing Safety Integration

Heavy-duty white-noise reversing alarm and reverse-sensor mounting provisions support low-speed manoeuvring awareness.
  • Recovery and Front Protection

Summit bull bar, 7-inch driving lights, 9000 lb self-recovery winch and portable air compressor extend heavy-duty field capability.
  • Operator Support Package

23L water tank, 2.5m awning, extinguisher, phone mount, seat cover and window tint support day-to-day field use.
